COURTHOUSE ACCESSIBLITY INFORMATION
The United States District Court for the District of New Jersey has a designated Access Coordinator. It is the Court's policy to remove accessibility-related barriers to court services by providing reasonable accommodations. The Court does not provide devices that are personal or individually prescribed, such as wheelchairs, prescription eyeglasses, and hearing aids, or services of a personal nature, such as the pushing of wheelchairs.
ACCOMMODATIONS AT ALL FEDERAL COURTHOUSES IN THE DISTRICT:
- All public restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
- Smoke detectors and fire alarm systems are equipped with strobe lights.
- Public elevators provide access to all courthouse floors.
- Elevator cabs are equipped with braille signage and emergency call features to accommodate those with seeing and hearing impairment.
- Each of our three courthouses can be accessed through a ramp outside the main entrance.
- The Trenton courthouse can be accessed through an elevator near the main entrance.
- Service animals trained to assist disabled individuals are permitted, consistent with applicable federal law and policy.
It is the policy of this Court to provide reasonable accommodations to persons with communications disabilities. Specifically, the Court can provide sign language interpreters, listening assistance devices, and computer-assisted real-time translation (“CART”) services to participants (including parties, attorneys, witnesses and jurors) in federal court proceedings who are deaf, hearing-impaired, or have other communicative disabilities. The Court affords primary consideration to a participant’s choice of one of these services.
