E-Filing Instructions: 

An attorney admitted to the Bar of this court, including attorneys authorized to represent the United States, may register as a Filing User by completing the prescribed registration form and submitting it to the Clerk of Court. Exceptions to this requirement are out-of-state attorneys that: 1) represent a party in an action transferred to New Jersey pursuant to an Order issued by the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation or 2) attorneys who are retained to represent defendants in criminal cases. Registration as a Filing User constitutes consent to electronic service of all documents as provided in this order in accordance with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. See Paragraph 6, Policies and Procedures.

You can register to participate in the ECF program by completing and returning the REGISTRATION FORM.  (Please note that filling in the 'Secondary' email address will result in notices being sent to that account in addition to the primary address.)
(Government Attorneys (US Attorneys, US Trustee, etc.) entering private practice must register again.)

Please only send us one form. It is not necessary to send us a hard-copy if you have submitted the form electronically. This delays registration. Please note that registration take approximately 1 week.

  • Type in the requested information.
  • Save a copy of the form (by clicking the floppy disk icon on the Acrobat toolbar) using your lastname as the filename i.e. lastname.pdf

Submit your completed registration form:

  • You may email the completed PDF form to ecfreg@njd.uscourts.gov
  • Print, sign and mail your form to: ECF Registration, 402 East State Street, Trenton, NJ 08608
  • Or you may Print, sign and submit your form in person at any U.S. District Court Clerk's office.

Credit Card Payment Application

Effective January 3, 2005 the U.S. District Court of New Jersey will accept credit cards for the payment of court fees with the exception of fines, special assessments, restitution and bail. Click here for Application.
