Emergency Preparedness

The District of New Jersey has a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP). This document contains procedures for the re-establishment of essential court functions at another location whenever a federal courthouse facility in the District of New Jersey cannot be occupied because of a damage caused by a man-made or natural disaster/event.

The COOP's primary focus is two-fold. First, it identifies the personnel who will be involved in decision-making and those who will be responsible for implementing the emergency response provisions of the COOP. Second, it includes details for emergency communications, with an emphasis on contacting court personnel and providing information to the public and the bar regarding the filing of documents, scheduled court events and handling time-sensitive matters.
