CM/ECF Training

Attorneys who are members in good standing with the District of New Jersey may register to file documents electronically in the CM/ECF system. Pro hac vice attorneys may not register as filing users, but may request electronic notification by following instructions posted on the court's website at http://www.njd.uscourts.gov/ntcbar/notice-prohacNEF.pdf.

To register to file documents electronically with the District of New Jersey via the CM/ECF system, you must take the following steps:

Familiarize yourself with the CM/ECF Policies and Procedures manual and;

Fulfill at least one of the following two options:

Attend a live class at the Camden, Newark or Trenton courthouse.
Dates of training and class registration can be found on the court's website at http://www.njd.uscourts.gov/trainingDaysCalendar.html

Review the online CM/ECF electronic tutorials and pass an online, open-book, 20 question policies and procedures quiz (Effective & to be posted January 2, 2012). Passing means obtaining a score of 80% or above. At the conclusion of the quiz, click the e-mail button to submit your quiz results and then, please send your registration form as an attachment via email to ECFREG@njd.uscourts.gov. Once we receive both a passing test score and a completed ECF Registration Form, you will receive an e-mail containing your CM/ECF login and password in approximately two weeks.

Please note the following:

  1. You are welcome to attend a live class even if you pass the quiz.
  2. Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit will be given ONLY for attending a live class. No CLE credit will be given for passing the quiz.
  3. In addition to obtaining a CM/ECF login and password, we recommend registering for a PACER account. Instructions and forms can be found on the PACER website at http://www.pacer.gov.
